Birgit Geurts

After graduating as a medical doctor and working as a resident not in training at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, I joined the group of Emile Voest as a PhD student in February 2021.

My main project is coordinating the Drug-Rediscovery trial (DRUP). This is a nationwide clinical trial in which patients are treated with approved targeted or immunotherapy, based on their molecular tumor profile. It aims to facilitate access to potentially effective therapy and to evaluate efficacy and toxicity. Furthermore, it creates a national platform in which targeted drugs and accompanying biomarkers can be tested across various tumor types.

I am also involved in the Drug Access Protocol, which is a nationwide protocol to expand patient access to unauthorized anti-cancer drugs.
