Ton Schumacher Scientific Director a.i. Netherlands Cancer Institute

Prof. dr. Ton Schumacher is appointed as Scientific Director ad interim of the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) as of April 1, 2024.

He will succeed prof. dr. René Medema, who will start as a member of the Executive Board/Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of the Princess Máxima Center for children’s oncology as of April 1, 2024. Schumacher has been a part of the NKI and Oncode Institute since 1996 as a group leader in molecular oncology and immunology. He is also professor of immunotechnology at Leiden UMC.

“We are overjoyed that Ton Schumacher has agreed to take on this role until we have found a permanent successor, and we are very much looking forward to working together with Ton.” says Maurice van den Bosch, chairman of the executive board. “The procedure for the recruitment of a Scientific Director of the NKI is ongoing.”
