On Tuesday 13 March, Sedef Iskit defended her PhD thesis on molecular research into therapy resistance and the metastases of tumors. These are both important causes of the return of cancer after surgery. Iskit discovered a potential combination therapy against triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of breast cancer that regularly becomes therapy resistant. She also studied the process of metastasis in bladder and colon cancer. She showed that the presence of the molecule Fra-1 can predict the course of the disease.
Sedef Iskit obtained her PhD at VUmc
