“Next year, I will have been working in this role for 12.5 years; the perfect moment to pass the baton to someone else and take on a new challenge myself. Over the last years I have greatly enjoyed working towards our organization's ambitions. With great gratitude and certainly some sadness I will start my final year at the NKI. But I am looking forward to being able to contribute to our ambitions, including our collaborations with KWF Dutch Cancer Society and Amsterdam UMC.
Piet van der Slikke, chair of the Supervisory Board, respects the decision: “The Board has great respect and appreciation for the dedication with which René has worked towards realizing the ambitions of the Netherlands Cancer Institute. In part thanks to his efforts, the Netherlands Cancer Institute has grown into a leading hospital and research institute, both nationally and internationally. The Supervisory Board will soon start the recruitment procedure for a successor.
