Philippe Pasero has a thesis in Cell Biology from the University of Marseille and did postdoctoral internships in the labs of Susan Gasser (Lausanne) and Etienne Schwob (Montpellier). He heads a team at the Institute of Human Genetics (CNRS and University of Montpellier) investigating the cellular responses to replication stress (RS) in yeast and in human cells. The most recent achievements of the team include the identification of dNTP shortage (Forey, Mol Cell 2020) and transcription-replication conflicts (Promonet, Nat Commun 2020) as natural sources of RS. Moreover, they have characterized molecular mechanisms promoting the signaling and the repair of stalled forks in budding yeast (Bacal, EMBO J, 2018; Delamarre, Mol Cell 2020; Pardo, EMBO Rep 2020). In human cells, the team has shown that cancer cells adapt to RS by overexpressing key components of the ATR-CHK1 pathway (Bianco, Nat Commun 2019). Finally, they identified a novel link between RS and inflammation leading to the activation of the cGAS-STING pathway by DNA fragments released from stalled forks (Coquel, Nature 2018; Curr Opin Immunol 2019).
