“As a pharmacist, I want to be able to help patients. That's why I always assumed that research wouldn't be for me. Until I realized during my master's that there are various kinds of research that can be quickly translated to the clinic. Institutes like the Netherlands Cancer Institutes collect a lot of patient data that patients allow to be used in scientific research. Although more and more research see the value of these materials nowadays, they are still not used often enough. I used patient data to answer several clinical questions, and I analyzed how we can use this data more efficiently. I've used programming software to create a text mining algorithm that current and future researchers can use to quickly collect data that would otherwise be hard to find or unused. That makes it easier to get the most out of valuable patient data."
