Philip received his PhD in pathology from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 2002, working with Tony Kouzarides on chromatin modifying enzymes in human cells. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of John Diffley at Cancer Research UK, Clare Hall Laboratory, UK from 2002 to 2008 and was awarded the Cancer Research UK Hardimon-Redon prize in 2008. He started his own research group at the Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge in 2009, studying replication control in eukaryotic systems and cancer cells. He was selected for the Biochemistry society award lecture in 2011 as an EMBO Young Investigator (YIP) and a Journal of Cell Science “Cell Scientists to Watch” in 2015.
