Function description
The Research Technician will contribute to the various projects that are taken by the facility, with a focus on cell culture (insect- and mammalian cells), antibody production and expression/purification of recombinant proteins and – depending on interest and qualifications – biophysical characterization of macromolecular interactions. The tasks within the facility can be performed independently to some extent, but will also include training and/or collaboration with customers that would like to learn the techniques and contribute to their own projects.
Team
The NKI Protein facility is one of the NKI Core facilities and provides support for the expression, purification and biophysical characterization of proteins to both internal (NKI) as well as external academic researchers. The Protein facility currently hosts three employees and shares lab space and equipment with two Structural Biology groups at the Division of Biochemistry.

Job requirements
We are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled, and proactive Research Technician with the following
skills:
- A MSc degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical sciences or related field;
- Strong affinity and hands-on experience with cell culture, recombinant protein expression and protein purification;
- Motivation to learn and apply biophysical methods is an advantage
- You get inspired by working on various projects;
- Service-oriented skills to support collaborative research;
- Precise worker with a good sense of responsibility;
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English;
- You are a team-player.
Compensation
- The position is full-time (36 hrs./week); part-time (32 hrs.) can be discussed
- The vacancy is available immediately;
- You will be employed for a period of one year, with a possibility for extension;
- You will work in a cutting-edge research environment;
- You will collaborate with scientists with expertise in different disciplines;
- The gross salary per month can range from € 2.982,- to € 4.540,- (salary group 45-50 scale), depending on your experience; the terms of employment will be in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Hospitals (CAO Hospitals);
- In addition, you will receive a fixed end-of-year bonus in December (8,33%) and in May you will receive 8,33% holiday pay;
- You will have access to state-of-the-art lab equipment;
- Your travel expenses will be reimbursed at € 0,23 per km. Free parking at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek is also part of the package;
- Personnel is stimulated to use public transport and bicycle and therefore we offer an interesting arrangement for bikers and/or discount on the NS-business card;
