Function description
The Brummelkamp laboratory (Division of Biochemistry) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to study how alternative triglyceride synthesis – a recently discovered metabolic pathway (McLelland et al., Nature 2023) – contributes to tumor growth and metastasis.
Cancer cells rewire their metabolism to adapt to nutrient limitations, and understanding these metabolic adaptations is key to developing new therapeutic strategies. In this project, we aim to define how lipid biosynthetic pathways support cancer cell survival and dissemination. Using a combination of cellular and in vivo models, the postdoctoral researcher will investigate how tumors dynamically alter lipid metabolism in response to their microenvironment.
The position is embedded in a collaborative research environment, with exposure to cutting-edge genetics, cell biology and proteomics/lipidomics technologies. The candidate will work closely with a technician and senior postdoctoral fellow dedicated to the project.
Scientific Environment
The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), located in Amsterdam, is a leading cancer research institute affiliated with the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (AvL) hospital. It fosters an interdisciplinary environment where fundamental, translational, and clinical researchers collaborate to advance cancer treatment. The Brummelkamp group in the Division of Biochemistry is an international and stimulating laboratory, where trainees have access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
