Cancer can only be understood and ultimately conquered when we collaborate with a whole range of stakeholders. Of all collaboration partners, patients are by far the most important, valuable and close to our hearts.
Around 25% of our patients are engaged in a clinical study. Without their commitment, there would be no cancer research.
The world of the researcher in the lab and that of the patient are often miles apart. We aim to encourage researchers and patients to discover and understand each other’s worlds. This is why we take part in the Oncode Institute Patient Perspective Program. This program provides a support structure that enables researchers and patients or former patients to connect and interact. Within the Netherlands Cancer Institute, five Oncode-labs are involved in this program (Van Rheenen, De Visser, Akkari, Zwart and Vermeulen).
